ALERT

A Facebook post from the USS Adams Museum on 12/21/2018 said the following:

"Unfortunately, the United States Navy has reversed course and determined the ex USS Adams will not be donated to the Jacksonville Historic Naval Ship Association ("JHNSA") as a museum in Jacksonville, but instead will be scrapped. This decision is counter to the Navy's recommendation in 2014 that the ex USS Adams be released to the JHNSA for donation. We wish to thank Congressman Rutherford, Senators Rubio and Nelson, Governor Scott, and all the City officials for their efforts with the Secretary of the Navy to have the ex USS Adams brought to Jacksonville. Although disappointed by this development, the JHNSA will continue to pursue bringing a Navy warship to downtown Jacksonville."

No reason was given for the Navy's decision, though many have asked via replies to the post.  When further information is available, I will update this page accordingly.

In the mean time, you might want to contact your state representatives to see if they can bring any pressure on SecNav to reverse this decision.  Although it would be nice to see a ship to Jacksonville, for me it wouldn't be the same as having the first ship of our class there.

As a result of the Navy's reversal, it would now appear that the 2020 Reunion will be held in Norfolk/Virginia Beach rather than Jacksonville as voted at the 2018 Reunion Crew Meeting.  The DDG-5 Crew Members Association Executive Council will make a decision probably this coming January (2019).
